    The EU Clinical Trials Register currently displays   38177   clinical trials with a EudraCT protocol, of which   6271   are clinical trials conducted with subjects less than 18 years old.
    The register also displays information on   18700   older paediatric trials (in scope of Article 45 of the Paediatric Regulation (EC) No 1901/2006).

    E.2.1Main objective of the trial
    Evaluar la utilidad de la modificación de las dosis de efavirenz, de forma guiada por su concentración plasmática (therapeutic drug monitoring), en pacientes infectados por el VIH que inician tratamiento con Sustiva.
    E.2.2Secondary objectives of the trial
    - Evaluar proporción de pacientes que precisan interrumpir el tratamiento con efavirenz por fracaso virológico tras 48 semanas de seguimiento.
    - Evaluar la proporción de pacientes que precisan interrumpir el tratamiento con efavirenz por acontecimientos adversos secundarios tras 48 semanas de seguimiento.
    3. Determinar la incidencia de acontecimientos adversos y el perfil de toxicidad (hemograma, AST / ALT / FA / GGT, creatinina, urea).
    4. Evaluar la proporción de pacientes con niveles plasmáticos de efavirenz entre 1.0 y 4.0 mg/L.
    5. Evaluar la relación entre la aparición de acontecimientos secundarios durante el tratamiento con efavirenz y características demográficas y clínicas de los pacientes, así como con la concentración plasmática de efavirenz.
    6. Evaluar las variaciones en el recuento de linfocitos CD4 y CD8.

    E.3Principal inclusion criteria
    - Según el criterio del médico responsable, necesidad de iniciar un esquema de tratamiento antirretroviral que incluya efavirenz (se incluye tanto pacientes que inician tratamiento antirretroviral por primera vez como aquellos otros en tratamiento con inhibidores de la proteasa, que cambian a efavirenz por motivos de rescate o de simplificación de la terapia antirretroviral).
    - Ausencia de infecciones oportunistas y/o tumores en los tres meses previos a la inclusión.

    E.4Principal exclusion criteria
    - Historia de hipersensibilidad alérgica a la medicación en estudio.
    - Historia de fracaso previo al tratamiento antirretroviral con agentes inhibidores de la transcriptasa inversa no análogos de los nucleósidos o resistencia previamente documentada frente a efavirenz.
    - Historia de comorbilidad psiquiátrica que, en opinión del investigador, desaconseje el uso de efavirenz.
    - Consumo activo de alcohol (>50 g/día) u otras drogas ilegales (excepto hachís).
