    The EU Clinical Trials Register currently displays   43845   clinical trials with a EudraCT protocol, of which   7282   are clinical trials conducted with subjects less than 18 years old.   The register also displays information on   18700   older paediatric trials (in scope of Article 45 of the Paediatric Regulation (EC) No 1901/2006).

    Phase 1 trials conducted solely on adults and that are not part of an agreed paediatric investigation plan (PIP) are not publicly available (see Frequently Asked Questions ).

    E.2 Objective of the trial
    E.2.1Main objective of the trial
    To compare early head growth in premature infants (< 29 weeks gestation) receiving a standardised concentrated neonatal parenteral nutrition (scNPN) formulation with scNPN containing additional macronutrients: protein, fat and carbohydrate (scNPNmax).
    E.2.2Secondary objectives of the trial
    Secondary outcomes compare scNPNmax and scNPN with respect to:
    1) other growth measurements (weight gain, lower leg length) up to the age of 36 weeks gestation
    2) efficiency and safety of parenteral nutrition administration
    3) effects on routine monitoring of body biochemistry, nutrients in the circulation and markers of infection (sometimes referred to as NPN tolerance)
    4) supplementary biochemical (electrolyte) infusion requirements
    5) use of other drugs and infusions
    6) use and non-infective complications of intravenous lines
    7) cost
    8) neurodevelopmental outcome in survivors at 18 months corrected age

    The role of Pharmacy in the implementation of an optimal standardised concentrated neonatal parenteral nutrition formulation: a case study based on a phase IV randomised, controlled study of macronutrient intake, growth and other aspects of neonatal care (SCAMP-PHARM)
    This study is embedded in the SCAMP nutrition study to specifically address pharmacological aspects: manufacturing, stock and dispensing issues, safety in scNPN prescribing/administration, education/training.

    Inclusion Criteria:
    All infants born under 29 weeks gestation and weighing <1200grams at LWH will be eligible. All infants meeting these criteria born outside LWH will be eligible if transfer to LWH is completed within 48 hours.

    E.4Principal exclusion criteria
    Exclusion Criteria:
    Infants born in very poor condition in first 72 hours and are unlikely to survive the first week after birth. Infants born <24 weeks gestation.
    Infants diagnosed with major congenital or chromosomal abnormalities know to affect head growth or gastrointestinal function.
